For our first class project was to interpret a found piece of artwork. I used one of my own drawings that I had done for a summer college course. The work itself was not completed, but anyone who did not know this would have assumed that the piece was indeed finished. I used this knowledge as the theme for my first project, which is something that is unfinished, yet finished. The storyline of my first project is that I would open my refrigerator, get the cups that were in there, close the refrigerator, get the knife and the frosting, and then exit my room and head for the kitchen. As I am in the kitchen, I would lay out everything that I would need, before opening the frosting and putting the knife in it. I would then take a cupcake and the knife with the frosting on it and spread the frosting on the cupcake; however, the act of spreading the frosting on the cupcake, would not be seen by the viewer. And then the last scene is of the empty cupcake wrapper. The viewer knows that the cupcake is being spread with frosting and being eaten, but they can not see the actual event. This shows the unfinished, yet finished part. My professor then suggested that I add sound effects for the act of spreading the frosting and eating scenes. After putting in those sounds, he then suggested that I put in some sounds in the earlier part, so as not to confuse my viewer, who might think that the sounds were already there in the audio. However, from the reports from my classmates, the sounds either distracted the viewer from the actual purpose or were not enough of them in the piece.
